BasicLUX Records was founded in 2002 with the goal of increasing the reach of music we love and live with everyday; a modern, sophisticated blend of smooth house, bossa, chill, downtempo, lush electronica and dance pop. From the beginning, our mission has been to showcase great songwriting and production in this genre by offering a refined sound that we like to call new style lounge. We started with the New Sound Theory series, one of the original chilled compilations. From their we have moved forward with concept cd's (Holiday ReMixed & Roxy ReModeled) as well as launch the downtempo duo, Madison Park. Our motto is simple: Music is a luxury we all need.

"New Style Lounge" is a term for an amalgamation of musical styles that combines the ethic of the original "Lounge Music" while incorporating complimentary contemporary elements such as nu-jazz, deep house, downtempo and neo soul. The artists of New Sound Theory (the label’s flagship compilation series), like their predecessors, are breaking new ground using studio experimentation & technology while continuing to incorporate live elements, carrying the torch forward while adding unique twists -- assuring that New Style Lounge will always be fresh and pertinent.

BasicLUX has a clear mission of introducing new material, avoiding the recycling of tracks (as so many compilations seem to do today). Therefore, in addition to offering new music from some of the existing leaders in this genre, BasicLUX also actively seeks out the more underground and emerging artists. The listener can always count on something fresh and new as that is our primary goal.

Through consistency of quality, distinctive visual presentation and creative marketing, we strive to create releases that will stand out and offer a real alternative to consumers who are looking to discover new sounds from around the world.
